The Search Continues...

On Day 797...

We have been in Asheville for over a month now and our search for a church home continues... It feels as if we have been searching for decades... In our desperation we even resorted to pulling out the phone book and reading down the list of churches searching for one that has a website... or at least an answering machine. Did you know there is a Zen Center of Asheville? And what is a Christian Reading Room? And the King of Glory Church asks that you write down all the revelations you receive from the Holy Spirit and pass them to an usher as quickly as possible. All that to say that our possibilities are... endless :-P The fact that there are about 900 churches in Asheville as made the search that much more difficult. So far we have visited: Trinity Presbyterian, Grace Presbyterian Community Church, Mountain View Baptist Church, Blue Ridge Bible Church, Biltmore Baptist Church, Gateway Christian Community Church and the most recent being Grace & Peace Mission. Although the latter has been the best we have tried so far, it did not feel like home to either of us. (The fact that we were distracted by the 2-year-old in front of us who peed all over her father, the chair, the floor and the hymnal during the sermon probably didn't help with our concentration... but still).

However, the search has brought us to our knees and has really made us think about what is important in a church. It has been enlightening and humbling to visit so many churches in such a short period of time. In the past six weeks only one church have I really been fed spiritually and really felt like I worshiped, and not because the music was great, but rather because my walk with the Lord was deepened. All that to say, we still do not know where we will be attending, and we probably have more questions than before, however this experience has increased our faith and and deepened our relationship with our Heavenly Father... and in the end... isn't that all that matters?
