Tales of the events, both real and imagined, thoughts, ponderings, some deep and some shallow, observations and the like as experienced by a girl, who was born in the north, grew up in the west, moved to the east and currently lives in the south.

1 Month Old!

I can't believe this little girl is a month old already! She is so much bigger than Ben was, and sleeps and eats SOO much better than he did... for which I am very thankful. She is a very sweet and laid-back baby, and other than having gas and an extremely sensitive gag reflex she is as close to perfect as they come. :) She talks to me, and we have had a few smiles from her as well. Gotta love those toothless grins. :)She was 8lb 14oz at birth, and by 2 weeks she was 9lb 13oz and I wouldn't be surprised if she has packed on another pound or more in the last 2 weeks. :) She has left all her newborn clothes in the dust and we are currently working on a good solid forearm roll... as you can see we are well on our way. :) (Ben was never chunky, and this is the only time in life where it is okay to have a roll where no person should have one. :)

Chickens to the Rescue!

I found this book at the Library and Ben and I read it about 1000 times before we had to take it back! It is a silly book, but just plain fun. :) The second picture is when the chickens save Milky the Cow because she had been blown into a tree. :) Ben would go around the house saying "Chickens to the Rescue!" Fun times. :)

Memorable Graduation Moments
Sorry, no pictures yet. Due to my lack of hands (thanks to two kids and no husband) all pictures from graduation were taken my by dad and father-in-law. So, once I get them I will post them. :)
But here are two little things that happened that we got a laugh out of:
#1 - Last night at Andrew's hooding ceremony a girl was sitting in front of us that had on a strapless dress... so all you could see were her shoulders when she was sitting. All of the sudden Ben says (rather loudly), "Grandma!!! Her NAKED!!!" Thankfully, my mother-in-law had the presence of mind to kindly explain that she was wearing a pretty dress, we just couldn't see it. :-P I think we have officially entered into the "Kids-Embarrass-Their-Parents-With-Their-Comments" stage. :)
#2 - As Andrew was processing out an older lady stepped out into the isle and gave Andrew a huge hug. After a second or two she looked up at him and said, "Oh Whoops... wrong kid!" Haha... we got a good laugh out of that one. :)

Feats in Motherhood
Today I reached new heights as a mother. Adding number 2 has been a transition, but not too crazy (knock on wood) but today it was all tested.
This morning was Andrew's commencement ceremony for his graduation from Wake Forest (pictures coming soon). Well, for the first time in 17 years WF had to go with the rain plan thanks to pouring rain. So, instead of a nice sunny graduation on the campus green, the commencement ceremony took place in a nearby (dry) stadium.
So, this morning I dropped Andrew off at the at the front entrance in the POURING rain and proceeded to park. I parked and managed to get Naomi, Ben, a huge umbrella, my purse, the diaper bag and myself across the parking lot, into the stadium, through the ticket stand and up 2 flights of stairs to the balcony... and did I mention that I managed to keep my white shirt (the only thing I had packed) dry??
Be Impressed. BE VERY IMPRESSED. :)
I did have a little help, I should admit. A very kind woman shook off my umbrella and closed it up for me (I had NO idea how I was going to do it. :) and I tried to to look pathetic as I asked the employee if there was any way I could get around going through the turn-style things... thankfully they had pity on me. :)

Naomi's Birth Story
Naomi's Birth Story - Short Version: I went into labor at almost midnight on Sunday night, got to the hospital at 2:30ish and Naomi made her grand experience at 7:05am. :)
For those of you who like all the information, here you go:
Naomi's Birth Story - Long Version: I had 2 hours of false labor on Sunday morning from 3-5am. I did the same thing with Ben, and my childbirth class instructor's voice kept going through my head... "don't pay attention too soon!" So after 2 hours of contractions that were about 5-10 minutes apart they quit an I got some sleep.
I had a few contractions on Sunday but nothing major. We had a great day of church followed by lunch and dinner with family and got home late. I had been having a few contractions but they didn't really bother me, so I just ignored them. I got in bed about 11:30, and at 11:45 I had to get out of bed because I wasn't able to lie down through them. So for the next 45 minutes or so I tried to time them and walked around, took a shower etc. They were 5-7 minutes long and about 50-75 seconds long. I remember looking in the mirror at about 1 and thinking... "I am SOO tired, can't you wait until tomorrow little girl?!" She had no intention of doing so. :) (I should note that I HATE the feeling of having to stay awake, I pulled one all-nighter in college and from then on pledged never force myself to stay awake... and now BOTH of my children have kept me up all night in labor... go figure). At about 1 am I work up Andrew and had him start timing them. They were usually 5 minutes apart and a minute long, but every once in a while they would be 7 or 8 apart or only 45 seconds long. So we kept waiting for a full hour of 5 minutes apart. At about 2am I had one 3 minute contraction and then I got to see lunch and dinner in reverse. :) At that point I decided to call the doctor. We told my mom and then headed in to the hospital. We got there at about 2:45am and I was at 9cm. (I told Andrew on the way there that I was going to be really disappointed it I was only at 5, because I was at 6 when we got there with Ben... but I wasn't disappointed). At that point they all went a little nuts, but Naomi decided to take her sweet time. My contractions spaced out and I decided to just relax and try and sleep and rest as much as possible. At 5:30am I decided to let them break my water, at after that the contractions slowed WAY down (about 20 minutes apart) and Drew and I slept the majority of the next hour. :) At 6:30 I decided there there was no way out but through, so I got up and started walking and had 3 contracts in about 8 minutes. Through this whole thing I never felt like pushing, so they said to try laying on one side for one contraction and then flipping and doing the same thing on the other side, to try and move her down. That did the trick. I had two contraction laying on one side, switched sides and 2 pushing contractions later Naomi made her appearance at 7:05am on Monday, April 26th (my brother Ryan's 25th birthday).
This little girl nursed for TWO hours after she was born, so when they finally put her on the scale at about 9:30am Andrew and I did a double take on her weight. :) Ben was 6lb 9oz, so we thought since she was born almost 2 weeks later she would be bigger... but not that much bigger. But I have to say I am loving a baby that is bigger and nurses SO much better. We are loving every minute with our little girl. (she even let me have two 4 hour stretches of sleep last night!)
