And here we go!
This family (and also two other families) are doing a 100 Days of Real Food Challenge!
In an attempt to be healthier... and just for kicks... we are going to spend the next 100 days without sugar, or anything from a box, bottle or can that has more than 5 ingredients. (There are a few more rules too.)
And thanks to Naomi's newly discovered food allergies, Naomi and I (and pretty much everyone else in the family, since I do the cooking) will be doing without all wheat (spelt and kamut are wheat cousins, so none of that either), rice (yes, you are thinking to yourself... what is left?) and dairy (both cow and goat milk/yogurt/cheese etc).
It is going to be an adventure, but one that I am looking forward to! After discovering Naomi's food allergies she has been sleeping through the night pretty regularly, which is VERY new and I am EXTREMELY grateful for!
So wish us luck! And we will let you know how it goes!

As I was putting lotion on Naomi tonight getting her ready for bed I look over and Ben is standing up, bent over, rubbing his ankles.
B: Mommy, my ankles needed shampoo! They feel soooo much better now!
L: Ben, that is lotion not shampoo, but I am so glad your ankles are better.
30 seconds later...
B: Mommy, my hand ankles needed lotion too!
L: Ben, those are your wrists.

THREE
Where has the time gone? Can he really be three? In a way it seems like such a long time, and in others it seems like only yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital on that bitterly cold day and sitting on our couch wondering when the grown-ups were going to show up.We have loved every minute with this little boy and can't imagine out life without him.

Cloth Diapers
They are more work, but I am saving a lot of money... and they are just SO DARN CUTE! Especially with leggings. :)

While taking a walk we found some ice and I gave Ben a stick and showed him how to smash it. 20 minutes later...
B: Mommy, stand back.
L: Okay.
B: Mommy, this is a BOY job, not a girl job.

At lunch today I was playing with Naomi grabbing her spoon then giving it back her, then grabbing it again etc.
B: Um mommy, you just need to learn to share with my baby sister, okay?
L: Oh, you are right Ben.
B: And you just need to be kind to her always, alright mom?
At least something is getting through, now we just need to put it into practice!

Snow Days
Now that our snow is almost melted (although there is some in the forecast for tonight) I will show you a few pictures from the TEN DAYS I couldn't get out of my house.... yes we were beginning to go crazy...

Two Weeks Notice!
Not only is it the title of one of our favorite movies (that we saw twice in the theater on our honeymoon) but Andrew just gave his Two Week Notice!
Andrew lost his job in residential construction three years ago (within a week of starting grad school and having Benjamin... so much for the "only-do-one-major-life-event-each-year" we went for three in less than a month.) Since then he has had different jobs in a range of different areas but nothing that has met our needs and been something he really enjoyed.
After he graduated with his MBA last January we really started looking for a job, ideally in Asheville since our family is here, but understanding that we would probably need to move to find a suitable job. After interviews for jobs from New Orleans to Pennsylvania and Texas to Suriname... God provided us a job RIGHT HERE AT HOME!!!!! Literally... Andrew will be working for The Novak Consulting Group. They do local government and non-profit consulting, so it will be about 25% travel, but the rest of the time he will be working from home!
I can't even begin to tell you how excited we are! So thankful that we get to stay in this place that we love, close to friends and family. So thankful for Andrew to be using his undergrad, graduate and previous work experience in something that he is really interested in, and his personality is perfectly suited for...finding efficiencies... hopefully he will direct his energy toward his work and stop trying to make my kitchen more efficient through elimination of appliances and utensils!
He starts work at the end of the month and will be jumping in with both feet. The company was just given the contract to do the restructuring for the City of Harrisburg, PA, which recently declared bankruptcy.
