Here are my journal entries from our trip:

December 9-11, 2006

We left Asheville at 6am, then to Atlanta with a 4 hour layover, then a 4 hour flight to LAX, followed by 5 hours in the LAX baggage claim, waiting for Dad, Micah & Sarah. Then to the international terminal… the place was CRAZY! Thousands of people going every which way and tons of different restaurants. We waited until 7pm to check-in, a very crazy process. After three attempts we finally ended up in the proper line, then waited in three different lines to check-in. I stayed up until we boarded the plane at 11pm pacific time, then slept 12 of the 14 hours on the flight. We got off in Taipei, Taiwan, then 4 ½ more to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

We stayed at the Crown Princess which was very nice and filled with Christmas decorations, Santa coming out of the ceiling (about every 5 feet), and the 7 dwarves standing around the Christmas Tree, (go figure!).

The local currency is the ringet and sents – 3.5 ringet per dollar.

We took an evening tour of KL, took picture of the Petronas Twin Towers & went to a “cultural show,” which was dinner and dancing. Malaysia has many different influences, Dutch, English, Portuguese, Chinese & Indian. They really don’t have a culture of their own. Even the Malay language is just a mixture of Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi & English. Later that night we visited the packed Chinatown market, they were mainly just selling fake Rolex watches, prauda purses, ripped dvd’s & fruit. J We didn’t got to bed until 11pm, I have no idea what time that was in the US.
