Woke up at 7am, had breakfast at the hotel. A great buffet, which had everything from bbq beans to cocoa puffs.
Malaysia does not run on any sort of time schedule. Our 8:45am tour didn’t leave until 9:30. We went outside the city to the Batu Caves, a Hindu temple inside a limestone cave. There is a huge statue of a god out front that used 10,000 liters of gold paint. There were monkeys everywhere. It was 272 stairs, then down 40 & up another hundred+ to the top. Dad says it signifies that we cannot get close to god without hard work. Even at the top, you cannot approach the idol; the priest must do it for you.
We also visited a pewter shop and fabric printing/painting shop. We scraped a rubber tree and saw the sap and also saw the palm three seed – palm oil is the largest export in Malaysia. As our tour guide told us “Malaysians can’t do electronics.” Then we met up with Mr. Steven, the Christian cab driver mom met. He took us to little India, where all 6 of us had lunch for less than $3 each, and that included the tip! We also went up in the KL Tower, which has 360 degree views. It is the 4th tallest building in the world. As we arrived it began to pour (as it does every afternoon) so it was a bit cloudy. He took up to a chocolate factory; the tour guide was great and spoke decent English. Then we wandered the central market. (Mom’s favorite place while she was here, although we didn’t find it as intriguing). Malaysians LOVE to shop, it is “part of the culture” according to Mr. Steven. I have never seen so many shopping malls, plazas, shops etc. Took a taxi home in the POURING rain. Feel asleep at 6:30pm.
