Bye-Bye Baby Girl

We had to put our sweet puppy Ivy down on Saturday night. Things had just sort of spiraled downward VERY quickly in the past few weeks. She had lost over 20lbs and a number of other things. She was at a friend's house (who had two other labs) on Friday and Saturday to see if we couldn't perk her up a bit, and when we picked her up we could tell that things had gotten A LOT worse even in the 48 hours we hadn't seen her. She was glad to see us, but is SOO much pain she couldn't get comfortable. It was heartbreaking, but we are glad she isn't in any more pain.

She wasn't even 2 years old. As much as she annoyed us, we loved her and it is still hard to think about life without her. We will miss not having to ever vacuum the kitchen floor, and not having anyone to lick the peanut butter knife or greet us in the morning, and it is hard to think that Ben won't even remember her. She will be greatly missed.

Oh Leah! I'm so sorry. We had a yellow lab that looked a lot like Ivy, and we had to put her down too. I know how hard it is. :-(

I'm so sorry! She was too young! That's terrible, but you have to do what you have to do. Praying for you guys - I know some might say "she was just a dog" -- but dogs can be like family members, it's still hard.

So sorry to hear the sad news. We just found out last week that our cat (who we left with friends in NC) was attacked and killed by a wild dogs. The pain is eased a bit by the few thousand mile separation, but to some extent we share in your sorrow. Ivy was a beautiful dog and I know she was so special to you.

You did the right thing by choosing to end her pain. I remember that being one of the hardest choices to make. I pray that God will comfort you during this sad time...

I found this poem when we lost our yellow lab, Jasmine. We had to make the difficult choice 2 years ago. It helped Raj and I. Our prayers are with you. Toni

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
