Isn't it amazing what a blessing real friends can be? Although, we are making friends here, nothing can replace our old ones. This weekend DNS & JMS took a break from the big city and came to see the sights & sounds of our southern town. We did everything from wandering around at the Apple Festival in search of honey crisp apples and picnicing at the Biltmore to making fondue and indian food to just enjoying each other's company over a bottle of wine. What more could we ask for? (...other than asking that they lived 7 minutes away instead of 7 hours...) L

Sing to Me in French!!
Oh Day 980...
We have a program on our computer which allows us to listen to music that is playing on another computer. (Yes, it is legal, it is just like listening to the radio.) Although it can be great, the problem with the program is that people mix other music in as well... so you can be relaxing and listening to Enya and a rap song will come on etc. Well, yesterday we were listening to Phantom of the Opera, and amusical came on...in Chinese! It was absolutely painful to listen to... there is nothing flowy or romantic about singing in Chinese. So, just in case any of you were going to sing for me... I prefer English, Spanish or French... but please not Chinese!

On Day 980...
Is it just me or is anyone else frustrated with the media and also the people in Louisiana? The media is not helping at all! They are reporting that the people don't know what to do, that they don't have food or water... but they don't do ANYTHING about it, they just continue to talk. All they can do is point fingers at the Bush Administration. (I think they expected Bush to have troops ready to go before the hurricane struck!). Do people not realize that the troops need food, water and lodging as well? What help would they be if they showed up without any equipment? Sen. Kennedy even went as far as to say that the hurricane was Bush's fault! (How has this man been elected so many times??) Not to mention the citizens! They were told to evacuate, and chose not to do it. And now they are just sitting and waiting instead of trying to get out on their own, or, as one man did, commit suicide in front of thousands of adults and children. There have even been reports of people shopping in the new Walmart (not looting, not taking what they need to survive.... shopping! looking, putting back etc.) I know that is must be devastating to be in that situation, having lost everything, but where is their will to survive, to get out and being again?

Well, in the last two days gas has jumped from 2.46 to 2.57 to 2.90 to 3.06. Just in time for the hurricane which has stopped the gas supply to Western North Carolina. And last night the city ran out of gas. Yes, RAN OUT OF GAS! They have sent non-emergency city and county employees home and have encourages people not to drive until our gas supply comes back. But they, of course, didn't say when that would be.
